To say Tenby's Nicky Rees enjoyed the event is an understatement - in fact he said: "I loved it."

Nicky: "Having competed in the inaugural event last year, where not everything went to plan following a bike malfunction, I was more than ready for this challenge.

"I had completed Norseman Extreme Triathalon in August and the Long Course Weekend back in June, and was also due to take part in Ironman Lanzarote, but fractured my ribs three weeks before that one.

"After the disappointment of Lanza, my year began with Norseman, which I completed in 15 hours three minutes after swimming in ice cold fjord, cycling in temperatures of seven degrees through to 24 degrees, then running the last 15 miles of the marathon up hill to culminate at the finish line 5,000-feet up a mountain.

"Ironman Wales was very exciting as I knew the course, trained on it virtually every day over the past year and felt like it would be my year.

"The swim started in the usual way with everybody jostling for a place. I completed this in one hour nine minutes.

"The bike went off very smoothly - no problems with the bike this time and I completed the 112 miles in six hours 46.

"The run started well; the first two loops went well, then the calves began tightening up - maybe the hills at Norseman were taking their toll, but I finished the run in four hours three minutes.

"Once again, as last year, the local support was absolutely amazing. Everybody who shouted my name, I am very grateful and you might not realise how uplifting the support can be, so thank you very much, especially to my wife Ali for putting up with all the hours I put in to the training and being very understanding, and my two children, Chelsea and Dylan, for all their support - thank you all."
