An evening of Irish dancing and music in memory of an inspirational teacher is taking place in Pembrokeshire later this month.

Julie Hynes, who lost her battle with cancer 10 years ago, taught the skill of Irish dancing to hundreds of youngsters in the county.

The Hynes School of Irish Dancing went on to bring home many titles from competitions in Wales and Ireland, with the performances by the school's show team being enjoyed by thousands of people.

"Julie touched a lot of lives - she wasn't just a teacher, but a real friend and mentor," said one of her former dancers, Sam Davies, who is amongst those organising the dance showcase evening at Saundersfoot's Regency Hall.

"She would have been very proud that her memory lives on in the achievements of her former pupils."

The event, on Saturday, June 20, will raise funds for the Saundersfoot branch of the Cancer Research campaign, and will feature dancers from the Seren, Harries-Hardy and former Hynes Irish dancing schools.

There will be guest performances by Sam Davies, whose successful competitive career has taken him to a top three world ranking, and Siobhan O'Sullivan, currently completing a masters in Irish dance performance at Limerick University, Ireland.

The show will also feature an instrumental interlude from brother and sister Talfan and Siriol Jenkins, both award-winning young musicians and former Hynes dancers.

The dance performance will be followed by a ceilidh dance with family band Caffl. There will be refreshments, a raffle and a licensed bar.

The show starts at 7.30 pm, and tickets (£8 for adults, £5 for under 16s) are available from the Regency Hall on (01834) 811700.
