A Pembrokeshire musician and dancers will be joining Côr Meibion De Cymru (The South Wales Male Choir) in their first concert of 2003 in Bournemouth's International Centre tomorrow (Saturday).
The 110-strong choir - sponsored again this year by Chevron Texaco and celebrating their 21st anniversary year - take the 'Sounds of Wales' all over the world and have often featured West Wales talent in their concerts.
A dozen choristers from the region will be travelling to the South Coast, along with the senior dancers from the Saundersfoot-based Hynes School of Irish Dancing, Broga Rince (Dancing Shoes) and Pembroke trumpeter Tim Bourne. He will be performing alongside guest soprano Iona Jones, as well as choir piano accompanist Siân Gwawr and newly-appointed choir harpist Kathryn Rees.
"We are really pleased to be able to show off Pembrokeshire talent in Dorset," said choir chairman Philip Howells, of Lamphey. "We have shared the stage with these dancers before in Wales, but this is the first time that they have travelled over the border with us.
"Tim is an old friend of the choir. He was the featured trumpeter on our recent CD 'Anthem 2002' and thrilled the sell-out audience in St. David's Hall, Cardiff, last October, when he performed in the company of Charlotte Church, Iris Williams and Bonnie Tyler."
Said Broga Rince's choreographer, Julie Hynes: "The dancers are knocked out by this invitation to perform in such a big venue."
The choir will have two conductors on the night. Founder conductor Alun John will take the baton as the choir perform favourite items from their early repertoire, while Cardiff group conductor Keith Griffiths will swing Wales' largest male choir through more recent numbers - all in aid of the Mayor of Bournemouth's charities and Tenovus.
