A couple of weeks ago, 15-year-old Georgia Thomas, of Tenby Golf Club, was fortunate enough to be selected for the Welsh Schools Under 19 team for the second successive year in their annual match against England.
The match was played at Fulford Heath Golf Club, near Birmingham, with the format being foursomes in the morning, followed by singles in the afternoon. The teams were each made up of eight boys and four girls.
In her foursomes match, Georgia was partnered by Katie Westphal from Creigiau Golf Club and they were up against a three and four-handicap English pairing.
Georgia and Katie dovetailed well together and gained a 3 and 2 victory, although at one stage they were dormie 4 up.
In the afternoon singles, Georgia played some exemplary golf against her four-handicap opponent in gaining a five-hole lead at the turn, before securing a 7 and 5 victory thanks to a level par performance.
The overall match was won by England with a score of 12.5 to 5.5, despite Georgia's two-point contribution, as she ended up with the best girls' performance.
