Commander N. Hinch, Royal Navy, carried out the 2008 inspection of Tenby Sea Cadet unit recently and commented on the excellent achievements of the cadets. On arrival at the unit, Mr. Alan Adams, vice- chairman, and the commanding officer, Lt. Roy Broxham, greeted him. He then took the salute and inspected his guard of honour. Following colours, he inspected the rest of the cadets and spoke with the staff and guests. Leading Cadet Thomas very ably took the parade and the Rev. R Webley led the prayers. Whilst the cadets prepared for their displays, Cadet Harrison Sharp gave him a guided tour of the unit. This was Cdr. Hinch's first visit to the unit as South West Area Officer and he was impressed by the resources available to the cadets and the good use of the space available for training. Having completed his tour, he watched two very well accomplished tasks, the first being a demonstration of rigging a sailing boat undertaken by Cadets Tattershall, Griffiths, Harley and led by Able Cadet Beynon. The second task was knot- tying, big style, large pieces of rope, with large knots. This involved most of the cadets and they were led by Able Cadet Roberts. The formal evening ended with presentations of good conduct badges to Able Cadets Roberts, Beynon, Morse and Thomas. Cadets then took Evening Colours, before the commander spoke to everyone present and thanked them for making his visit such a pleasure. He then joined everyone at the Sailing Club reception before heading back to Bristol. Since the inspection, the unit has received the inspection report and been awarded a pennant for its efficiency. The unit can now concentrate on its summer programme of boating, sport and competitions. If you would like to try these activities, visit the harbourside unit on a Tuesday or Thursday evening at 7 pm.
