The first event in the 2009 diary of Saundersfoot Inner Wheel Club was a great success, celebrating Inner Wheel Day with an international evening on January 12 at New Hedges Village Hall.
President Olive welcomed members from neighbouring clubs. She also gave a very warm welcome to 16 international friends who live and work locally.
Trevena also gave greetings in Welsh and introduced everyone: Reinhilde (Germany), Christina (Sweden), Marlys (Germany), Vicky (Holland), Ria (Holland), Usha (Kenya), Margaret (Ireland), Ambika (India), Sathy (India), Kama (Azerbaijan), Luba (Russia), Luda (Moscow), Vandy (India), Julia (Azerbaijan), Ellada (Azerbaijan) and Lolita (Latvia).
Each international friend gave greetings and good wishes in their native language.
President Olive marked the occasion by presenting a bookmark, designed and painted by club member Evelyn, and hoped that it would remind them of a very happy evening.
International secretary Trevena then introduced Garth and Kathy Holden, who treated everyone to a wonderful musical recital from countries around the world.
To end the evening, the Inner Wheel members provided hospitality to their guests, with a selection of home-made desserts and coffee.
Olive made a short announcement that the annual Fish and Chip Supper for local charities would be held on Friday, February 27, at the Mermaid Restaurant, Saundersfoot. Tickets are available from club members.
The Inner Wheel Club would also like to thank everyone who bought a raffle ticket for their very popular Christmas cake and this raised a considerable amount for local charities. Also thanks to Olive who made the cake and Ros who decorated it.
The next meeting will be held on February 5 at the St. Brides Spa Hotel and will be a business meeting.
