Wheel members met at the Fourcroft Hotel on Monday, June 15. President Meryl welcomed all present and asked for a few minutes silence for past member Mrs. Irene Handicott who had recently passed away. A business meeting continued with officers' reports. Meryl reported that she, Joyce and Pat had attended a dinner hosted by the Carmarthen Inner Wheel Club as part of their 70th anniversary celebrations. The guest speaker for the evening was Dame Tammi Grey- Thompson. After a short coffee break, the AGM took place. All the officers gave their annual reports for adoption by the club. President Meryl gave the final report of her year and thanked her officers. She had previously presented cheques for the money raised during her year to representatives of her chosen charities, Ty-Hafan and the NSPCC. She then handed the chain of office to the incoming president, Joyce Walker. In her first speech to the club, Joyce announced that her chosen charity was to be DEBRA and that she hoped members would support her in raising funds for this. The meeting ended with members giving their best wishes to Joyce for the coming year. On Friday, June 20, members and friends enjoyed a trip to Picton Castle. The handover dinner was held at Carrington's Restaurant on Monday, June 23. The guests included Dilys Jenkinson, Soroptimist president, Jane Osborne, Ladies Circle chairmen, and Margaret Thorne MBE, of the Neath club. Meryl said Grace and a delicious meal followed. President Joyce gave her after-dinner speech and paid tribute to outgoing president Meryl. Presentations were made and the evening ended with a fun raffle! The next meeting will be on Monday, July 14. This will be a walk around Tenby accompanied by Mr. John Beynon, who will point out places of historical connection. The walk will commence at the top of the zig-zag in the Norton at 7 pm. This will be followed by a meal at the Buccaneer at 8.15 pm.
