Concerns have been expressed this week for the infrastructure of Narberth.

"It has been said on many occasions, Narberth is a victim of its own success, but I have grave concerns for the complete infrastructure in the town," said County Councillor Wynne Evans.

"Currently there are 79 dwellings being built or permission to be built in various locations in the town," he explained. "These are either large scale developments like the Mart Ground or single plots by individuals within the town." "I feel people should be aware that within the next six months, three separate new developments are likely to be submitted for planning permission which in total will be applying for 218 new houses in the town ward," Clr. Evans pointed out.

"These are all currently identified within the Joint Unitary Development Plan, but again, pressure will be put on the infrastructure, in particular Welsh Water, at their treatment plant in Narberth, which is in need of a major capacity upgrade."

Clr. Evans now intends to meet with representatives and the Environment Agency this month to discuss his concerns.

Also on the agenda will be the issue of the Town Moor car park, which is constantly busy. "Even though the town will regain the school playground when the new school relocates in autumn 2007, this will only give a added 44 spaces," Clr. Evans said.

"There is no point looking back at what could have been with regard to possible car parking sites, we must look forward to identify problems in the long term, and there are many we have to deal with as a community," Clr. Evans added.
