Election hopefuls aiming to be Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner from May are being invited to an information event.

They will meet senior police force personnel including Chief Constable Simon Prince together with staff from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) .OPCC Temporary Chief of Staff Helen Morgan-Howard said: “I want all potential candidates to have as much knowledge as they need for the election.

“I hope they take this opportunity to better understand the work of the Chief Constable and OPCC.”

Mr. Prince heads the police force; the Commissioner sets policing priorities based on his or her understanding of public needs, and scrutinises the force’s work.

The OPCC is a professional team that supports a Commissioner to fulfil the functions and responsibilities set out in law. These include commissioning of services, public engagement and scrutiny.

On Thursday, May 5, the public of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Powys will vote for the second time to elect a Commissioner.

The elected Commissioner will oversee an annual policing budget of around £95m for four years.

The information day takes place at Police HQ, Llangunnor, Carmarthen, on Monday, February 29.
