Saturday heralded Mia's Appeal's 10th birthday pink theme tour around South Pembrokeshire.

Twenty-six fundraisers raising money for Mia Phillips's appeal for Cystic Fibrosis dressed in pink and made their way from Kilgetty Sports Club to Wiseman's Bridge, Saundersfoot Sports Club, Narberth Rugby Club, Snooty Fox, Sun Inn, St. Florence, ending in Tenby.

They have raised £352 so far, but that sum is to be matched by Barclays Bank - thanks to Alison Pearce, who is greatly involved with the ongoing fundraising.

"Thanks ladies and thanks Pembrokeshire - we could not do it without you," said Mia's mum Merrilee Phillips.

Mia was 10 last month and celebrated her birthday with a Valentine's ball for her friends.

Donations to Mia's Appeal are channelled through the Pembrokeshire Cystic Fibrosis Trust Branch to the CF Trust which supports the work of the CF Units at Llandough and Heath Hospitals, Cardiff.

These centres of excellence have overall responsibility of the care of CF patients in Pembrokeshire - such as Mia - and these units provide a clinic which she regularly attends at Withybush Hospital.

At the same time, any money raised through Mia's Appeal to support the local work on behalf of Pembrokeshire patients releases other monies needed for research to find a cure which it is desperately hoped will come within Mia's lifetime.

Mia is a pupil at Stepaside School which she loves attending. Her hobbies include reading, drawing and knitting. She plays the cornet, is a member of Seren School of Irish Dancing and Tenby Dolphins.

Said Merrilee: "Mia copes very well with an intense daily routine. When she is well, she takes 45 tablets, has two 20-minute physio sessions and four nebulized treatments (but this is increased when she has an infection).

"She gets up at 6.30 am every morning in order to fit in all her treatments so that she can do all the other things she wants to do like any 10-year-old girl - and she never complains about it!"

Merrilee continued: "Ten years ago we were given the most precious gift - every day she makes us proud."

Mia is a courageous character. She says she too wants to arrange mystery tours etc. when she's older and says if by then there is a cure for CF, she will raise money for other charities.

In the meantime, fundraising will continue.

Mia's uncle and Merrilee's brother Ryan Howells will be 21 on March 23 and is doing a sponsored skydive on that day to raise money for CF. He would welcome sponsorship and anyone who would like to donate can do so via http://www.doitforcharity.com/RHOWELLS">http://www.doitforcharity.com/RHOWELLS

And Mia herself will be hosting a cake bake for CF Week, while Merrilee and her friends have their annual ladies' walk arranged for the summer.
