Whitland's resurgence of form continued at Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn on Saturday, although the Borderers did leave it late to claim their 28-20 victory over basement battlers Treorchy.
With the Zebras struggling at the foot of National League division one, Whitland stamped their authority on the game early on, rattling up 10 points within the first five minutes.
Dominating the battle for possession through the graft of Steve Gerrard, Fakataha Molatika, Derek Thomas and Dai Jones, the Borderers bagged an early try when Anthony Jakeman burrowed over from the base of a close range scrum.
Daniel Griffiths was unable to to convert, but there was no stopping Whitland who edged further in front from the restart when Griffiths, Andrew Jenkins, Wayne Lewis and Steve Griffiths combined well to split the Treorchy defence and send Randall Williams over for an unconverted try.
A cricket score seemed on the cards when the Borderers made it 17 points to nil with a Derek Thomas try, converted by Griffiths, but the Zebras fought back with a captain's try from David Cambourne following a quick tap penalty which was converted by Mathew Hutchings.
A drop goal and a penalty from Hutchings reduced the arrears to just four points at the break.
Whitland started the second half in similar style to the first, with another Griffiths penalty nosing them further in front.
But they were unable to wrap things up, with a catalogue of errors wasting chances to turn pressure into points, while Richards was unlucky to be denied a try when he was judged to have put a foot in touch.
The Zebras capitalised with a fighting performance which saw them level matters with time running out when Jamie Summers crashed over for a try, and Hutchings converted.
However, Griffiths landed another penalty to edge the homesters in front and then they had the final word when the pack won quick possession to free their threequarters.
The ball was fed out to replacement winger Steve Hartland who carved through the Zebras defence before linking with Daniel Rogers who zipped through for an unconverted try.
Their second successive win in the space of a week, the Borderers have now climbed to a healthy mid-table position after their faltering start to the season, and they will be looking to further improve the situation tomorrow (Saturday) when they travel to Riverside Park to take on Rumney.
Whitland fielded: Wayne Lewis, Steve Griffiths, Daniel Rogers, Lee Banfield, Andrew Richards, Daniel Griffiths, Andrew Jenkins, Romeo Colella, Steve Gerrard, Dai Jones, Anthony Jakeman, Fakataha Molitika, Randall Williams, Tristan Mabbutt, Derek Thomas.
