The long-awaited car parking improvements at Withybush Hospital will move a step further this month when a partnership with the nationwide Euro Car Parks Group comes into effect. For the first time, patients, visitors and staff will have the services of a designated car park attendant who will monitor car park use and offer direct help to those visiting the hospital. As part of the scheme, there will be designated parking for staff and the public, with much-improved security. This will be achieved primarily through a staffed presence, with plans for CCTV coverage and improved lighting. Additional provision has been made for those with disabilities, including designated spaces for those needing assistance from the attendant. The Trust's chief executive, Frank O'Sullivan, said: "Those who regularly visit the hospital are well aware of the enormous problems there have been with car parking. We are determined to improve matters for our patients, visitors and staff. Some disquiet has been expressed about car parking charges being introduced to pay for the improvements, but there has also been support, as the charges will mean we can improve our parking facilities without having to divert money from direct patient care services." From later this month, there will be a charge of 50p for two hours at both the main hospital site and at Bro Cerwyn opposite, with concessions for particular groups. Initially, free permit parking will be available for hospital staff pending planned improvements and additional capacity in staff parking areas. Further details of the scheme and the charging bands are available from the Trust's estates department on (01437) 773463.
