An open day is being held next week at the new multi-million pound Tenby Cottage Hospital. Pembrokeshire and Derwen NHS Trust members of staff, along with members of the Tenby Local Implementation Group, will be on hand next Friday, March 10, to show members of the public around the facilities at the impressive Gas Lane building. As reported in last week's Observer, the handing over process has now been completed and a full commissioning programme is in progress to enable services to commence from the new building on Monday, March 20. Services which will be transferring to the new facility on that date include Outpatients clinics, Minor Injury Services (8 am - 10 pm every day), District Nursing Team Base, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy base, Macmillan Nurse Base, Speech and Language Therapy, Dietician, Podiatry, Family Planning Services, and X-Ray services. "In addition to these services, integratation of health and social care will be enhanced with the provision of Day Care for 15 clients at the hospital from April 3," said Sonia Hay, project director. "This will enable clients to receive medical support whilst attending." She continued: "The Social Services home care team will also now be based alongside district nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists at the new facility, enabling integrated care to be provided within the patient's home. "This will, where possible, prevent unnecessary hospital admission, provide intermediate care at home and within the day centre, rehabilitate patients with therapeutic services and enable patients to be discharged from in-patient care to integrated health and social care at the most appropriate venue of the patient. In addition to these enhanced services for the people of south-east Pembrokeshire, 10 NHS beds will be provided in the private sector where in- patient care is most appropriate for the patient. "Make every effort to come and see the new facilities on March 10." The Open Day will be held from 10 am until 8 pm.
