Sir,
I read with great interest the comments of Clr. Putwain regarding the display of historical photographs of Tenby, in premises that were currently empty. I would like to make an appeal that the magnificent photographical history of Tenby United RFC, which used to adorn the walls of the clubhouse in Upper Frog Street, be put on display somewhere in the town.
These named photographs going back over 130 years, are a wonderful record of the hundreds of outstanding rugby players who represented this once illustrious club. Also on display was a treasured photograph of the invincible 1924 New Zealand All Blacks, who went through a tour of over 40 matches in the UK and Ireland without a single defeat and who presented this photograph to the club whilst spending a week in Tenby, preparing for their match against Wales.
It is a shame that all these prized possessions which were envied and admired by all rugby clubs and individuals from all corners of the world were removed from the club some 10 years ago and have not been returned to their rightful place. These priceless photographs must not be lost to the town of Tenby and if the club does not wish to display them, surely Clr. Putwain's suggestion would at least ensure that this important legacy of a club steeped in history, is not lost for future generations.
John Westerlow,
Manorbier.
