The importance of the European parliamentary elections on June 4 has been outlined to the local Conservative Association at its annual general meeting.

Around 60 members of the Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire Conservative Association attended the meeting in Narberth.

"It was a very well attended meeting and we heard from European parliamentary candidate Kay Swinburne about the importance of getting a good turnout for the Euro elections on June 4," said local Assembly Member Angela Burns.

The meeting was also addressed by Mrs. Burns, parliamentary candidate Simon Hart and the leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Nick Bourne.

Mr. Bourne spoke of campaigns run by the Conservatives, including those opposing Post Office and pub closures and the merger of the Community Health Councils.

"We have had an excellent past year as an association," added Mr. Hart.

"We held our seat on Pembrokeshire County Council with an increased majority, our Assembly Member has been working hard and we have spoken to thousands of voters across Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.

"All in all, we are in excellent shape to fight the European election on June 4 and the General Election which has to be held before June 2010."
