'Images and Reflections' is the title of the new exhibition at the Oriel Q - Queen's Hall Gallery, Narberth, by the Pembrokeshire Embroiderers' Guild. The exhibition opened on Saturday and runs until September 29.

The aim of the guild, a registered charity, is to promote and encourage the art of embroidery, to educate the public in the history of the art of embroidery in all forms and to collect, document, preserve and exhibit examples of fine embroidery and make them available to the public.

Pembrokeshire branch of the Embroiderers' Guild extend their knowledge of materials through workshops and experimentation, pushing boundaries and techniques to achieve exciting results but also working with traditional skills Work exhibited by the 28 members shows each following their own design ideas on a variety of backgrounds from paper and fibres to the more traditional fabrics and materials.

Forget the image of little old ladies making pretty corners on tablecloths; textiles and surface pattern is a popular department in the modern art college, and quite a few of the guild members have been students recently, and bring an exciting dimension to the guild. An exhibition that will delight and stimulate you.

Also showing on the stairs is a collection of photographs by Peter Blincow. Peter taught art in Haverfordwest Grammar School and is a talented artist who is better known for his watercolours and pen and ink studies. He has taken these photographs of the characters (mostly farmers) in and around Llanglydwen in the Taf Valley, and they capture a time and atmosphere which is fast disappearing.

The exhibitions are open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 am - 5 pm, and also on Sunday, September 23, when the Narberth Food Festival is on, and members of the guild will be giving demonstrations and also on Tuesdays. Go and be inspired!
