Sir,
As nobody seems to know whether 'Tenby desperately needs a two-screen cinema or 'how many people actually want (one)', last week's letters, I can only agree with your correspondent who suggested conducting a local poll. Shopkeepers, get those ballot boxes on your counters!
As for Tenby needing a two-screen cinema 'to ensure its future as a tourist destination', ummm... this could be the topic of a serious post-grad dissertation... 'an evaluation of the provision of all-weather attractions and their impact on tourism bla bla'.
Personally, I don't ever recall choosing a holiday destination because of the local cinema, but I'm prepared to be proved wrong by academic rigour. (But, hey, what if we had a hot summer?!)
I do know that, as a Tenby resident, I'll drive happily to Narberth to catch Film on Sunday, whereas I wouldn't get out of bed to see most of the modern blockbusters however many screens Tenby offered. (Yawn, and wait for the DVD). Luckily for Tenby, I'm not a tourist.
Whilst awaiting the planners, the local poll and the student's dissertation, I'll carry on dreaming about a small-is-beautiful, multi-purpose hall/conference centre/theatre/ occasional cinema... which is always full. Oh, did I just wake up and find myself in the Queen's Hall?

A poll is currently being conducted on our website, with the question: If a new cinema was established in Tenby, how often would you be likely to use it (after the novelty has worn off)?
Of the 47 people who have responded so far, 36 per cent say they would use it monthly, 19 per cent twice annually, 13 per cent fortnightly, 11 per cent weekly or more, six per cent annually, and 15 per cent never - Editor.
