The British Red Cross in Pembrokeshire is encouraging anyone interested in volunteering to attend to an open event in Haverfordwest on Tuesday, March 3.

Visitors to the event can learn about the various services the charity provides across the county, as well as chat to staff and existing volunteers about the volunteering roles available.

William Wiggans, 32, from Llanboidy, has been an event first aid volunteer with the charity for a year. He is encouraging more people to join the team so the service can expand and reach even more people.

He says: "I wanted to volunteer for the Red Cross as I enjoy the feeling I get from helping others. I learned some first aid skills as an air cadet and wanted to put that learning into practice. Volunteering with the Red Cross has given me lots of opportunities to do just that and also attend some fantastic events, such as at Ffos Las racecourse and the Pembrokeshire County Show. Through my volunteering, I have gained lots of new friends, a greater sense of belonging and happiness, more knowledge of first aid, and I've had lots and lots of fun."

Red Cross volunteers help people across Pembrokeshire every day. Services provided by the charity include Gofal y Ddolen (which supports vulnerable and isolated people across South Wales), patient transfer, and community based first aid training. Emergency response volunteers are deployed at times of crisis such as during severe weather, and retail volunteers help the smooth running of Red Cross shops.

Cara Evans, volunteer recruitment officer at the charity, said: "Volunteering is hugely rewarding and we have lots of opportunities available for people to find a role that suits them. We are a very friendly team and I ask anyone who could offer a couple of hours a week to contact us and learn more about the varied work of the Red Cross - there really is something for everyone."

If anyone is interested in learning more about the services of the Red Cross in Pembrokeshire, or would like to sign up as a volunteer with the charity, they are welcome to attend the open event at The Picton Centre, Haverfordwest, on Tuesday, March 3, between 4 and 8 pm.
