Residents of Tenby and its surrounding area are being encouraged to attend a Hywel Dda Health Board consultation at the seaside town’s leisure centre.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is holding events across Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, and Ceredigion to help users find out more about proposed changes on nine healthcare services aimed at addressing fragilities, improving standards, or reducing waiting times for people in need of diagnosis and treatment.

The services included are: critical care, dermatology, emergency general surgery, endoscopy, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, radiology, stroke and urology.

Proposals could change the way these services are provided in hospitals and some community facilities across Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion in the future.

The events are aimed at providing people with information about the consultation and options for change, and to provide an opportunity to speak to Health Board staff and ask any questions they may have.

Whether you are a patient, member of the community, staff member or someone interested in health and well-being, you can drop-in to an event at any time.

“What you think, your experiences of health and care, and your ideas about the future of these services are hugely important. We recognise the importance of making sure the decisions we take are shaped by the people we serve,” said a spokesperson for the Health Board.

“At each event you will have the chance to speak with senior staff from Hywel Dda about the future of the clinical services in the consultation.

“Don’t miss your chance to get involved and have your say,” they added.

At the recent meeting of Tenby Town Council, Cllr Dr Carmody who had represented the Town Council at the Hywel Dda University Health Board consultation for towns and community councils, said she would encourage all to attend the public consultation being held on Friday, July 4, between 2 and 7pm at the Leisure Centre, situated on Marsh Road.

“There is a huge amount of detail on the Hywel Dda website, including useful condensed documents, suitable for those with reduced literacy,” she told her fellow councillors.

“There are also documents aimed at youths. There is a lot to think about and digest and people have until the end of August to feed through. These are far reaching that will affect everyone,” she added.

Another public consultation event will be taking place at the Pater Hall in Pembroke Dock, on July 10 between 3 and 6 pm.

Cllr Laurence Blackhall told members that he was due to meet with the practice manager of Tenby Surgery regarding general issues.

He mentioned that the South East Pembrokeshire Community Health Network (SEPCHN) last year suggested an event roadshow of all organisations involved in health and volunteer organisations involved with healthcare, and social wellbeing.

“This was picked up by staff in Hywel Dda and a really good event was held at the Recency Hall, Saundersfoot which attracted lots of people,” he said.

“A second similar event is in the planning stage with the date to be confirmed,” added Cllr Blackhall.
