The Huw Lewis Memorial Fund, which was set-up some six years ago, following the premature death of 32-year-old local sportsman, Huw Lewis from Kilgetty, last year raised over £2,500 which has been allocated to good causes.
Huw died from a heart condition, which mainly affects young men between the ages of 20 to 35 and is not the only young man locally to have suffered from this condition, which carries few warning signs and can only really be detected via an ECG scan.
The memorial fund which was set-up by a group of Huw's friends has supported the CRY charity (Coronary Risk in the Young) since Huw's death.
In return, the charity has been a Kilgetty to carry out free scanning for over 250 young men.
The Huw Lewis memorial committee arrange various fund-raising events throughout the year, including the prestigious May Bank Holiday six-a-side football tournament, which is held at Kilgetty Football Club.
This tournament attracts teams from not just Pembrokeshire and Wales, but from England also. Last year, saw the participation of some ex-professionals as well as current Welsh league players, which when blended with much local talent makes for a real festival of football.
The committee would like to take this opportunity to thank the many volunteers which help the organisation of these events as well as the referees, scorers etc whose help is vital in running such events.
The fund has also supported many good causes over the past six years with over £17,500 being allocated to various causes.
The latest worthy causes to benefit from the fund are: CRY £1,000; Withybush Children's Ward £750; Gareth Scotcher Trust Fund £750.
If you are interested in entering a team in this year's six-a-side which takes place on Sunday, May 24, please contact Dean Rossiter on 07977905380 as soon as possible.
