An Hungarian civil servant has visited Pembrokeshire County Council's European Unit to see how the authority helps local organisations make the most of the Objective One Programme.

Hungary is set to join the EU next year, thus qualifying them for European Funding.

Dr. Andrea Jung, who is involved in funding for local and regional authorities in Hungary, spent three days shadowing members of the council's European Unit as they went about their work.

During her time, she was shown details of the Objective One application process, the claiming of claiming funds, monitoring and evaluation, methods of best practice and any pitfalls that may arise.

While in Pembrokeshire, Dr. Jung met with several local delegates who are involved with European funding in Pembrokeshire. These include John Allen-Mirehouse, the vice-chairman of the Pembrokeshire Partnership Management Board, and Kefin Wakefield, the council's head of economic development.

She was also given the opportunity to see the type of projects that can be funded through Europe. This involved a visit to te Objective One Funded E-Commerce Centre in Pembroke Dock.

The visit was organised by the Local Government International Bureau and funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Commented Clr. Allen-Mirehouse, the council's deputy leader: "We are delighted that Dr. Jung has been able to spend time with us, and we're sure it has been productive for all involved.

"The fact that Pembrokeshire County Council was one of the small number of local authorities selected to host a Hungarian civil servant demonstrates the high regard in which this council's management of Euro Funding is held."
