Around 300 people enjoyed a sneak preview of a major new leisure attraction for Pembrokeshire and Wales last week.

Blue Lagoon, a unique £10 million waterpark, opened its doors for a special VIP day on Saturday, well before the facility opens to the public. Blue Lagoon is quite unlike anything else, anywhere. It's a waterpark with wild waves, flumes to zoom down, bubble pools, a lazy river and much else besides - all in an amazing upturned coracle where it's summer all year round!

And beneath the surface, there's a current of good sense: Blue Lagoon is believed to be the only waterpark in the world to be heated by carbon- neutral biomass technology.

Blue Lagoon manager Scott Sinclair said: "Blue Lagoon is a remarkable facility that combines state- of-the-art technology, innovative design and environmental responsibility.

"But when you're barreling down the Wild Water ride or relaxing in the spa pool, things like biomass technology and ETFE panels probably won't be uppermost in your mind.

"And we wouldn't want them to be, because Blue Lagoon is, first and foremost, about fun. It's about simple enjoyment. It's about smiles on faces. It's just that here, your fun comes with a clean conscience." Scott added: "I think Saturday was a success and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves, but it was the very first time Blue Lagoon has been used by a large number of people, so it's also fair to say that the day highlighted a few issues that will be resolved before the official opening.

"The feedback we gained on the day was overwhelmingly positive, but it was also constructive. Such feedback is very valuable to us, so I'd like to thank everybody who has helped make Blue Lagoon even better."

Blue Lagoon is the showpiece facility at Bluestone, the new generation holiday village which welcomes its first guests this month. But Blue Lagoon also welcomes day visitors, and around 250,000 people a year are expected to sample the arresting array of aquatic attractions.

Bluestone chief executive William McNamara said: "Blue Lagoon is a key element of the Bluestone experience, but it's also a significant attraction in its own right.

"As a year-round, all-weather facility, it complements Pembrokeshire's existing roster of leisure attractions and we've developed a range of money-saving deals, offers and promotions that will make it more attractive still."
