Tenby United Swifts celebrated their end of season presentations at Folly Farm on Friday.
There were over 200 players from ages six-16, who were recognised for their hard work and commitment during the 2015/2016 season.
Hosts for the evening were Rachel Grieve, chairman of the Swifts, and Matthew Evans, chairman of Tenby United Rugby Club. Presenting the medals and awards were: Wayne Pivac, head coach of the Scarlets; Chris James, also known as Cone, head coach of Tenby United; and Tim Poole, director of rugby for Tenby United. The Swifts were very thankful to these men for giving up their time to support and inspire the children, as well as Rob Evans from the Scarlets, and All Black Victor Vito.
To begin the proceedings, all teams went on to the stage individually, to music of their choice (which could only just be heard over the cheers and applause) and were awarded medals. Trophies were given to players’ player, spectators’ player and most improved player, for each team, as well as awards to remember past players who are no longer with us.
Harvey John received the Ollie Cavill shield, presented by James and Mimi Cavill, Aaron O’Neil was presented with the Daniel Burrows award, and the U11s team and U16s team were given the Ollie Morgan plaque for showing perseverance, team work and commitment, presented by Richard Morgan.
Congratulations to all of those children who received an award.
It was also an evening of thanks. Firstly the ladies who run the cafés, under the watchful eyes of Dominique John, secondly, the coaches for giving up all their free time to teach the skills and enjoyment of rugby, and finally, thanking the team managers for all of their time given to organising the players.
Dom Booth, one of the U16 players, who has signed a contract with the Scarlets and has played for Wales, was awarded his cap and a framed photograph. The whole theatre, over 500 people, gave him a standing ovation to congratulate him on his achievements.
This year, the Tenby United Swifts had four teams competing in the Pembrokeshire finals day and three of these were successful in winning the Pembrokeshire Cup. This was a fantastic achievement which it is hoped will continue to increase over the years.
Tenby United Swifts have celebrated their presentation evening at Folly Farm for the past eight years and they would like to say a huge thank you to Chris and Karina Ebsworth and their team at Folly Farm for being so amenable and supportive and allowing the players to celebrate their rugby achievements in style.
