An important public meeting is being held in Narberth next week to discuss housing issues. The meeting, next Tuesday, September 20, is being called by the town's county councillor, Wynne Evans, and the town council.
The meeting will look at the way houses are allocated (points system etc), and in attendance will be the senior housing officer and the choice based letting project officer from Pembrokeshire County Council.
Said Clr. Evans: "Since becoming a county councillor some 16 months ago, the biggest concern I have is housing allocations by Pembrokeshire County Council.
"One resident has been on the waiting list for in excess of 22 years, yet when properties have become available, they have been allocated to people from outside the area."
Clr. Evans continued: "I know of over 30 locally born people in desperate need of housing who live in overcrowded or below standard homes and I will be asking for extra priority points to be given to local people to remain in the communities they were born in."
Clr. Evans has also recently had a meeting with Matthew Owens, the newly-appointed first rural housing enabler in the county, who will work with communities and individuals offering support and advice on affordable housing in the area.
"The public meeting is an open invitation to anyone who has housing questions and issues which need to be addressed," said Clr. Evans.
"I urge anyone with any concerns to attend this meeting," he added.
The meeting is being held at the Queen's Hall, starting at 7.30 pm.
Anyone who would like further information about the meeting, or has any queries, is asked to contact Clr. Evans on 860788.
