Sir, On Monday, July 11, I journeyed to Builth Wells visiting friends and on returning to my home in Saundersfoot found that the base of a planter on my balcony had been heated by the sun during the day to the extent that the sunny side had melted, whereby the upper part was leaning rather perilously towards the sun, as seen on the enclosed photograph! As the same object has survived previous summers without 'wilting' in the heat, it would seem that there may be some truth in the global warming theory. Meanwhile, owners of plastic planters may be well advised to keep them cool or do as I have now done, replace them with stone ones!
Frederic G. Morton, Saundersfoot.
