Pembrokeshire Coast National Park planning officers are to serve an urgent works notice to stop an historic building in Tenby from deteriorating further. Officers discussed their concerns over the state of the Royal Gatehouse Hotel on the corner of White Lion Street and also the Kent and Milford House annexe in The Norton, at a meeting of the authority's development management committee last week. In a report brought before members, planning officers stated: "Discussions have been held with the owner over many years which have sought to encouarge him to maintain the buildings and in recent years those discussions have included prospective developers who were, it is understood, looking at a joint scheme with the present owner. "These discussions included officers of CADW with a view to temporarily removing the bays from the front of the building, blocking them up and cosmetically treating the front of the building, which would at least enable the scaffolding to be removed, improving the appearance of the buildings over the summer season. "However, despite officers' best endeavours, even this work has not been undertaken and a recent site visit shows that the envelope of the building is no longer sound and internal damage to the building is increasing at an alarming rate," continued the report. Committee members agreed with planning officers' recommendations that an urgent works notice/ repairs notice should be served on all interested parties.
