WELL-known Pembrokeshire entertainer David (DC) Rees is pictured receiving a donation of £454 from members of the Victory RAOB Lodge, Tilbury, Essex, at the Cliffe Norton Hotel, Tenby. David, who is lifeboats visits officer for Tenby Lifeboat Station, accepted the donation on behalf of the RNLI and Tenby Lifeboats. During a recent performance at the hotel, David gave a talk to the visitors about the new lifeboat station, the RNLI and the new Tamar class lifeboat, 'The Haydn Miller'. The lifeboat, costing £2.5 million, is the first of it's type to go on station and the visitors were impressed at the fact that the RNLI is funded totally by public contributions and legacies. On learning that the boats are manned by volunteer crews prepared to risk their lives to save others, the visitors made a decision to hold a nightly raffle, with all proceeds to be donated to Tenby Lifeboats. A couple that were members of the Lodge donated a reconditioned Dyson as first prize. Said David: "It costs the RNLI in the region of £2 million every week to run the whole organisation, and crews are involved in rescuing more than 8,000 people per year. This is made possible only through public support and donations and the dedication of volunteer crew members and others who work for and support the charity." Any organisation or school wanting to visit the station can contact David on (01834) 845694 or the lifeboat station on (01834) 842197 to arrange a suitable time. There is no charge for this, but donations will always be gratefully received.
