A rallying call has been made to local residents to show they still care about the future provision of health care services in the area.

Health chiefs and members of various political groups are expected to be attending the forthcoming coffee evening organised by the Tenby Cottage Hospital League of Friends, and chairman of CATCH (Campaign for Action on Tenby Cottage Hospital), Clr. Michael Williams is calling on as many people as possible to show their support at the event.

"We need the people of Tenby to turn out and make the point to representatives of the Health Trust, the Health Authority and politicians who shall be attending that our concerns persist about the future of health care in south-east Pembrokeshire," he told the Observer this week.

"We also need to show support to not only the League of Friends, who have raised in excess of £100,000 in recent years which has all been invested into Tenby Cottage Hospital, but very importantly to the staff at the hospital who have been working in very difficult conditions and under the threat of imminent closure for five years," he stressed.

"We also need to make the point that every objective review that has been carried out has returned a verdict that south-east Pembrokeshire not only wants, but needs a community hospital," he continued.

"We now look forward to an early decision from Pembrokeshire Health Trust on the reprovision of health care services."

The coffee evening on Monday, March 18, is being held at the De Valence Pavilion, Tenby. The event starts at 6.30 pm and entertainment will be provided by the Celtic Claddagh dancers.
