A petition opposing Hywel Dda Health Board's proposals to close the Minor Injuries Unit in Tenby is set to be presented to the Welsh Assembly's Petitions Committee next month by the Mayor of Tenby and campaigners from the South East Pembrokeshire Community Health Network.

The local health board's consultation period as part of its 'Your Health/Your Future' consultation on the future of NHS services in the area, closed on Monday, and with both the South East Pembrokeshire Community Health Network (SEPCHN) and Tenby Town Council combining to launch a petition and an online petition which have been running concurrently calling on the National Assembly for Wales to ensure the proposals set out in the Health Board's document referring to closure of the MIU at Tenby Cottage Hospital, are not carried out, the petition is set to be handed in by Tenby Mayor, Clr. Trevor Hallett.

Members of the town council also agreed at their meeting on Tuesday night that the Deputy Mayor, Clr. Caroline Thomas (SEPCHN secretary) and the network's chairman Mr. Mansel Thomas should also accompany the Mayor to The Senedd to present the petition.

"Both the written and online petitions combined are approaching 1,000 signatures, so we have been given two dates in November where we have been invited to The Senedd to present them," said the town clerk, Mr. Andrew Davies.
