Sir,
I am a great believer of not making resolutions - by making no promise one does not break one and can feel righteous by default. But this time I think we should all make just one New Year's resolution - that before May, 2003, we will insist on receiving a firm statement from the authorities - whoever they may be - that we will have a replacement for our Cottage Hospital.
Let us also resolve that the replacement must have all the facilities of our own hospital, plus extra clinical facilities required but not presently readily available in the immediate area. Please do not leave the decision in the hands of accountants, wavering managers or professional politicians. The district needs that hospital and times are running out.
A lot of people are convinced that they are being conned and unless something is firmly established they will be even more conned. If my memory is right there is an election due in May for the Assembly, and if there is a watered down second rate hospital scheme afoot, the voter will not be told about it until the election has come and gone and your votes are safe.
So let us again be resolved that unless that firm commitment to the Tenby Cottage Hospital is available well before May, then your own votes are equally uncommitted!
Ivor Jenkins,
23 Dombey Road,
Poynton,
Cheshire.
