Students from Pembrokeshire College's NVQ Level 1 in horse care course were proud of the certificates they gained this year. The course is run over 35 weeks, one day a week, and is based at the Bowlings Riding School, Rudbaxton. The course is aimed at people who want to learn more about how to care for horses or who want to work towards a recognised British Horse Society qualification. While studying on the course, students were involved in improving their stable management skills and their riding ability. The course this year was attended by a range of young and mature students. Each student achieved the BHS Horse Owner's Certificate as well as the City and Guilds NVQ Level 1 in Horse Care. Some students went on to study for the BHS Stage 1. This qualification is the first step that students need to take to work towards an equine teaching qualification. The students enjoyed trips to local equestrian centres and lectures from vets, and also had the opportunity to compete in a dressage competition with rosettes being presented to the winners. Pictured below is the NVQ Level 1 in Horse Care student of the year, Julie Pellington, of Kilvelgy House, Carmarthen Road, Kilgetty, who is receiving her award from Dr. and Mrs Janet Gibson, of the Bowlings Riding School, Rudbaxton, The award was giving to her for her outstanding commitment to the course. Julie said: "I have really enjoyed myself and met lots of new friends, and I feel I have come away with a better knowledge on how to look after my horses. "The course tutor, Michael Butcher, was very supportive throughout the course and gave me lots of confidence to be able to achieve my goals. The college day suited me very well; I have a family and a part-time job, but still managed to fit in the course."
