Young Pembrokeshire football referee Tom Bevan (24) from Clarbeston Road has become the second referee from Pembrokeshire to be invited onto the UEFA elite talent development group.
The invitation from the West Wales Football Association came following his achievement of promotion to grade seven status which had seen him officiating at Welsh League, Welsh cup and local league games this season.
His meteoric rise to such a level has come in only his first season as a referee, as he was previously the custodian for Clarbeston Road and Haverfordwest County Youth.
Bevan's elevation to the talent group means he will come under the watchful eye of the West Wales Referee Development Officer, FIFA referee Mark Whitby whose experience can only enhance Bevan's prospects of reaching the Welsh Premier League or possibly a FIFA appointment in the future.
Bevan was also joined at grade seven level by Kevin Bowen, of Trecwn, and Huw George, a Pembrokeshire County Councillor and minister of Blaenconin Chapel in Llandissilio, together with Heatherton proprietor Charles Davies have moved up to grade six which allows them to officiate in Division One of the Pembrokeshire League.
The news of these promotions came along after the recent Society annual general meeting when all of the existing officers were re-appointed for the forthcoming year.
They are president - Danny Thomas; chairman - Chris Stapleton; vice-chairman and assistant secretary - Jonathan Twigg; treasurer - Ian Baxter; secretary - Dai Badger.
At the meeting, Kevin Bowen received an award for the most promising referee of the season and Dave Badger was nominated as the referee of the year for 2010/11.
After the traditional summer siesta, the society will hold the first meeting of the new season on Friday, August 19, at Whitland Cricket Club, which coincides with a cricket game against Whitland Diehards.
The society will then meet on every second Friday of the season at Neyland Athletic Club as it builds momentum towards the centenary year.
