On Sunday, history was made at the site of the former Kilgetty Ironworks when iron flowed for the first time in 130 years. The moment on Sunday afternoon when the first metal started flowing out of the furnace into the crucible was captured on camera by Gary Davies, of Kilgetty. "It was a fascinating sight to see and I would like to thank the people from The Wele Association (Wele meaning Behold in Welsh) for their hard-work in making an interesting afternoon and evening," said Gary. "My great-great-great-grandfather Tom Griffiths, of Plumb Tree Hall, Stepaside, was a foundryman at the ironworks and at Woodside Foundry, Wiseman's Bridge, for about 50 years of his life, so I have a personal interest in the site, and on behalf of the descendants of the workers, congratulate them on remembering those that worked in sometimes very difficult conditions."
