As incredible as it sounds, St. Florence never have had a junior section football team. Until now that is!
With many local sides already established and a core talent at St. Florence School, Nik Thomas and Steve Williams pulled together a core squad over the summer and applied for official league status.
The successful application came back and St. Florence Under 10s was born.
A slip of the tongue at training saw Matthew Evans complete the trio of coaches.
Primarily, the team, coaching staff and parents would like to thank the Parsonage Inn for their support with sponsorship.
With many companies fighting to sponsor this elite group of players, only one could pull and serve a decent pint and their chips are pretty good too!
Nik Thomas, often mistaken for Raffa Benitez himself, said: "St. Florence is about fun, everyone getting a game and playing some competitive football. We have a lot of fun in training and whilst winning games is great, it is vital that all players that turn up get a game."
Steve Williams, added: "We are always on the look out for children that want to play football and have fun. We are getting new players all the time and we will also be looking to try and have a few friendlies at Under 8 level too. So if you child wants to play football, please bring them along to Tenby Leisure Centre at 5 pm on a Monday."
Being a Tottenham fan, Steve is used to losing on a weekly basis, so this keeps the entire team grounded and focussed on developing the squad!
St. Florence FC has played two games so far this season. A very close and unfortunate 6-0 loss to St. Clears, was followed up by a 3 -3 cliffhanger at home to Lamphey.
St. Florence went ahead early in the first half. A balanced run from Barnaby Evans put Sam Williams clear, who placed St. Florence's first ever league goal into the bottom left.
The second came again from the boot of Sam, with a Gerrard like strike from 20 yards to put St. Florence 2-0 up at the break. Another first occurred as Sam completed St. Florence's hattrick early in the second half, earning him man-of-the-match!
Unfortunately, a three goal lead with five minutes to go was not enough as Lamphey held their heads high and fought back to level the game 3 -3. A great morning's football and lots of happy faces!
