Burnett's Hill Chapel, Martletwy, re-opened recently, with the chapel filled beyond capacity by a congregation drawn from various churches in the locality, as well as the remaining original members.

The service was presided over by the Rev. Donald Davies, Pisgah, assisted by Father Paul Davies, Jeffreyston, the Rev. Richard Williams, Woodstock, the Rev. Arwyn Thomas, Haverfordwest, and the Rev. Paul Naylor, Cardiff.

Addresses were given by Nic Wheeler (Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority), Chris Delaney (Heritage Lottery Fund), Tom Lloyd (Cadw) and Rob Scourfield (chapel treasurer).

The organist was Mrs. June Mathias for the hymns chosen by the remaining members, Mr. and Mrs. Roddy Prosser, Mrs. Harries and Mr. Jack Lewis.

It was a very moving and enjoyable service, followed afterwards by a fine tea in the marquee within the garden of Burnett's Hill Farm, the home of Mr. and Mrs. Donny Richards, where a photographic exhibition was staged.

The wonderful total of £511.50 was raised from donations, the sale of membership cards, and history booklets.

On the following Sunday evening, the chapel was again packed for a Sankey Evening, presided over by Mrs. Peggy Morgan, assisted by Mrs. June Mathias on the organ.

The singing was outstanding, the old hymns sung in four-part harmony as they were intended.

During the interval, Mr. Rob Scourfield spoke on the history of the chapel, from when it was first built in 1812.

The friends of Burnett's Hill thank all who contributed to the success of both evenings, and indeed those who provided help while the chapel was being restored. With their help, along with Cadw, the HLF, and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, this highly unusual and important historic chapel has been saved for the nation.

It is hoped to hold a harvest service next, which will be advertised shortly. The chapel is open during the day, with all visitors welcome.
