The Rotary Club of Saundersfoot hosted the second of their Youth Speaks last Monday, with the senior competition held at the Drama Studio, Greenhill. This is a traditional public speaking event where teams of students from both Netherwood and Greenhill Schools compete against one another.

A large crowd filled the Drama Studio and were enthralled by the exceptional standards set by each of the teams competing, with topics debated including 'Prisons should be our first port of call and not our last'; 'You can be too thin and too rich'; 'Children need a father'; 'Today's dreams are tomorrow's reality' and 'Reality TV, more like Fantasy Island'.

The winning team from Greenhill debated the topic 'Giraffes: Genetic miracles or freaks of the Savanah', with Sophie Evans as chairperson, Hannah Morgan as proposer and Poppy Brace as opposer.

Individual awards were presented to Sophie Evans for best chairperson, Daniel Jenkins, of Netherwood, for best proposer and Laura Court for best opposer.

President Peter Williams presented the team and individual awards, highlighting the high standard set by all teams in this year's competition and thanking the organiser and chairman of youth activities, Rotarian Charles Hopkinson, compere for the evening Rotarian Newman Vincent, time-keeper Rotarian Lionel Allen and judges Bill Snellgrove, David Owen and Rosemary Tippet-Maudsley for their assistance.

The winning team will now represent the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot in the next round of the competition.
