Pembroke and District Male Voice Choir held its annual Junior Schools Choir Competition, for which the Wilf John Trophy is presented to the winning choir along with a cheque for £75, on Monday.
The second place choir receives the newly presented Gordon Davies Cup and £50, while all the other schools which entered received a cheque for £25 each.
Wilf John was a founder member of the choir in 1952 and its chairman for 23 years. Gordon Davies was a former president of the choir.
The adjudicators of this year's competition were David Gwynn, the musical director of the choir, with Mrs. J. McGilloway and Mrs. R. Richards, both of whom have a choral and musical background.
Each choir sang two pieces in their competition entry and the standard set by each was excellent, but finally the prize for first place went to Pennar Junior School, Pembroke Dock, with Stackpole Junior School in second place.
The winning choirs will appear in a special concert in St. Andrew's Church, Pembroke Dock, on May 13, when those who attend will hear and see the rewarding quality of music produced in the junior schools in the locality. It is a credit to the teachers involved and an obvious pleasure and sense of pride to all those children taking part, in this case from Pennar, Stackpole, Priory, Monkton, Sageston, and Golden Grove, Pembroke.
