Last Sunday, after the worship time and prayer, the pastor, Rev. Peter Richmond, spoke about the apostle Peter. Without any hype or calling himself a faith healer, the former fisherman was able to heal a paralysed man with the simple words, 'Jesus heals you.'
Peter was just the channel for God's power, which can heal all forms of paralysis, emotional and spiritual as well as physical.
A lady called Tabitha (Dorcus), made clothes for the poor, and many associations today follow her example and take her name.
The Release International supported Tabitha Sewing Centre in Pakistan is a place where young women who have perhaps been abused or kidnapped for forced marriages, can learn sewing skills that will help them in a new life. They graduate with a sewing machine.
Tabitha's ministry came to an abrupt end when she died, however. But as the mourners started wailing, Peter was sent for. He probably had only one question on his mind as he prayed: 'What is God's will?'
Then, confident of his answer, he said 'get up,' and life came back into the lady. There was no crash team, no performance, no ritual, no mantra. Tabitha was restored to her ministry of good works and many people in Joppa believed - not in Peter - but in God, who has power to raise dead bodies and revive even the spiritually dead.
The events above are recorded in the book of Acts, one of the books that makes up the Bible.
