At the service on Sunday evening, Mick Quirk described the dedication of a Welsh seed salesman called Mordecai Price.

Mordecai had suffered from polio and could little use his legs; just the process of going through a farm gate could take up to 20 minutes; but his tenacity became a gift for evangelism. He was in the habit of offering people lifts and to each he gave a New Testament. Sometimes as many as 100 were given away in a single week, and he became known as a great 'soul winner' for Christ.

News was shared and many prayers offered during the service.

After reading Psalm 24, and the singing of a song set to the Psalm, the pastor, Rev. Peter Richmond, compared the city of Ramoth (which means 'high places', or 'exaltation'), with the person of Jesus. Philippians Chapter 2 says:

"He humbled himself... therefore God has exalted him to the highest place, and given him the name that is above every name..."

Peter identified that name as the Hebrew YHWH (I Am), traditionally rendered Jehovah - a name so holy that it is never pronounced or spelt out by Jewish believers.

When he was with his disciples, Jesus had declared: "All authority in Heaven and Earth has been given to me," and the Scripture tells Christians that they have been "raised up with Christ and seated with him in the heavenly realms" to show the riches of God's grace.

"It is so certain to happen," observed Peter, "that it is written in the past tense."

This Sunday's service takes place in the Avenue Centre, Greenhill Avenue, Tenby, at 6 pm.
