"Each of the names of the cities of refuge, established in Israel under Joshua tell us of something we have in Jesus," said

On Sunday evening at the Avenue Centre, Rev. Peter Richmond gave a short talk on the city of Bezer; its name means 'fortress'; a common description of the Lord in the Psalms:

"He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, 'He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.'" reads Psalm 91.

"When Hezekiah faced the overwhelming military might of the Assyrians, he went straight to God in prayer and found Him to be his refuge and strength. The Israelites did not even have to raise a weapon against them." continued the pastor.

Worship songs, accompanied by piano and flute, followed the theme, including The Lord is my Rock, You are my Hiding Place and In Heavenly Love Abiding.

News was shared and prayers offered for friends in trouble.

Near the end of the service, Mick Quick told the Biblical story of the lepers who discovered that Israel's enemy had fled the scene. After spending a while plundering the tents, they realised they were not doing right. "This is a day of good news and we are keeping it to ourselves."
