After a delayed New Year start because of illness, a handful of people were healthy enough to brave the elements on Sunday afternoon and join for an informal service.

The pastor, Rev. Peter Richmond, talked about a messy family of the Old Testament. He portrayed Isaac as a man who may have been troubled by his upbringing - he had a father whose faith was so strong and determined that he would have been sacrificed on an altar, had God not intervened with an angelic message. Meanwhile, his mother had sent his half-brother, Ishmael, away from the family.

When Isaac met Rebecca, the woman his servant had seen at the well, it was love at first sight - but before long the trouble started. Adding to his father's mistakes, Isaac invited trouble when he lied about her, claiming that she was his sister. First she was unable to have children, then after Isaac prayed, she had twins who fought with each other even in her womb.

Yet it was through this messy family that God chose to work, with one of the twins, Jacob, becoming the father of the 12 tribes of Israel and an ancestor of Jesus, Peter concluded.

Order was restored on Tuesday evening when all the usual members were present.

Services take place on Sunday afternoons at 4.15, in Carringtons Restaurant, below the Atlantic Hotel, on Tenby's Esplanade. Please visit the website http://www.hesed.co.uk">www.hesed.co.uk for more information.
