Forgiveness is central to the Christian faith and is the chosen theme for the talks given by Rev. Peter Richmond at Hesed services at the moment. In the context of prayers and musical praise, locals and visitors listened to the second part of this series. The pastor noted: "Converts from Islam often say the reason for their conversion is the teaching on forgiveness." He quoted a verse of the Koran to explain why: "martyrdom is therefore the only way for a Muslim to obtain forgiveness for sins" (Surat Al-Tawbah 9:111). Peter then summarised the Christian message: "Everyone sins and falls short of God's standards, but through repentance and forgiveness we can have a relationship again with God. It's what Jesus came for and what the gospel is about." But he questioned whether the message is really coming across: "For years the Church in Britain has distorted teaching on forgiveness. It promotes the lie that everyone goes to Heaven. "While everyone goes to heaven to be judged; who gets to stay is another question. God does not forgive those who don't repent."
