Jesus said: "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them... and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." It is known as 'the great commission' and was the theme of Pastor Peter Richmond's message to Hesed Fellowship on Sunday afternoon. Jesus gave the disciples power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal, as recorded in Luke's gospel. The 72 who were sent out by Jesus returned with joy and said, "Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name." (Luke 10) Rev. Richmond showed how that mission widened from the Jewish people to the whole world: Before the resurrection Jesus told the 12 disciples: "Go to the lost sheep of Israel... As you go, preach this message: 'The kingdom of heaven is near.' Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons." After the resurrection, however, the apostles are commanded: "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations," (Mt. 28:19). "The word 'therefore' indicates that because Jesus obeyed the Father and achieved salvation for the whole world, his followers now had the authority to go into all nations," explained Peter. He also quoted Acts 2:38-9 "You will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off - for all whom the Lord our God will call." The service started with 'We've a Story to Tell to the Nations' and finished with 'Go Forth and Tell'. There were other songs, prayers and psalms. Hesed services take place at 4.15 pm every Sunday in Carringtons Restaurant, below The Atlantic Hotel on Tenby's Esplanade. Drinks are available free of charge after each service.
