The prophet Elijah didn't have a very good press agent; all we know about his origins is that he came from an obscure village where people just about scraped a living together by working hard.
The pastor, Rev. Peter Richmond, talked about Elijah at the afternoon service on Sunday, covering the first part of the story of an "ordinary man, just like us." Elijah's simple prayers to the living God could command rain and bring fire from heaven.
His simple faith in God's provision enabled him to live through 42 months of drought. Then he showed in a public display before hundreds of Baal's prophets that their god was not worth the bother, but the Lord of Israel answers with fire. "Elijah knew God personally, he listened and heard what God said, and he trusted and obeyed God - however unreasonable," said Peter.
Songs in the service included 'These are the Days of Elijah' and 'Who is on the Lord's side?'
The fellowship are always grateful for the support and kindness of Mark and the staff at Carringtons Restaurant, below The Atlantic Hotel on Tenby's Esplanade.
This Tuesday evening there is an 'Open Doors' prayer meeting for the persecuted church in Pembroke Town Hall. For more details, telephone Rev. Peter Richmond on 01646 681805.
