The Paul Sartori Foundation’s first Steps for Sartori Hero Walk, held in glorious sunshine, was organised to support its free services that it provides in the county of Pembrokeshire to support people living in the later stages of any life-limiting illness.
Registration and fundraising brought in just over £1,300 profit for the Paul Sartori Foundation.
This event, scheduled to be an annual fundraiser for the Foundation, started and finished at Pembroke Castle, with various route options catering for all abilities, with the furthest one heading to Neyland Marina.
Costumes were imaginative and colourful, with many participants dressing up as their heroes, including Batman, a nurse and a footballer!
Walkers were welcomed by Pembroke Mayor, Clr. Dennis Evans and Mayoress Rita Evans, and the event was attended by Pembroke Castle resident, Dewi The Dragon. All heroes were presented with a goody bag sponsored by Tesco after the event as a thank you from the Foundation for raising much needed funds.
Toni Dorkings, community fundraiser for the Paul Sartori Foundation, spokeswomen for the Hero Walk highlighted: “The atmosphere on the day was fantastic, with many of our ‘heroes’ dressing up as their favourite heroes,” adding: “support from Pembroke Castle was key for the event as we could not have wished for such a great venue.”
Local support for this event is crucial to its success and the Paul Sartori Foundation fundraising department is encouraging businesses to sign up with teams and individuals with families for next year’s event.
The services provided by the Paul Sartori Foundation are free of charge, available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and enable people who are living in the later stages of life to die at home if that is their wish. With dignity, independence, pain free and surrounded by those they hold most dear.
