Cymdeithas Genedlaethol Hywel Dda was recently successful in obtaining a grant of £4,441 from the Heritage Lottery 'Awards for All Wales'. The money will be used to purchase presentation equipment as well as replacing a window at the centre in Whitland. Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire MP Mr. Nick Ainger was on hand last Friday to present the cheque to the centre's committee. "The management committee of Cymdeithas Hywel Dda are delighted to be awarded this grant," said secretary, Mr. Ken Rees. "The purchase of this equipment for presentation work will help to increase people's awareness of the history and heritage of our unique centre. This will help to bring more people to the centre, and this can only be good for the prosperity of the town. "The centre is now an integral part of community life, with workshop training sessions, meetings, day and evening classes held here. The new facilities will help to prepare material for these classes as well as for visitors who come to the centre," added Mr. Rees. Mr. Ainger congratulated Mr. Rees and the centre on their achievement. "It's often down to individuals who have got the drive and desire to achieve things for their community, so I'd like to congratulate the secretary and the Hywel Dda Centre on this grant; it's important for Whitland and is genuinely a unique centre," he remarked.
