Dyfed-Powys Police’s Rural Crime Team Officers are investigating a report of heritage crime at Llansteffan Castle with parts of the historic castell vandalised.

The incident happened sometime between May 1 and May 10. Graffiti has been sprayed in to the North Tower and East Bastion areas.

A spokespersion for the Police’s Rural Crime Team stated: “Heritage crime is any unlawful activity which harms historic assets including buildings, monuments, parks, gardens and landscapes.

“Some of these assets are protected by specific criminal offences but heritage crime often takes the form of ‘general’ offences such as theft, criminal damage, anti-social behaviour which are equally damaging to historic assets and interfere with the public’s understanding and enjoyment of them.”

Many members of the public took to social media to vent their frustration over this ‘senseless vandalism’ - with one stating: “Bloody awful, we love Llansteffan such a beautiful place, so sad to see this.

Another remarked: “Hope they catch them. They should be given a toothbrush and made to clean it off. Then all electronics confiscated, followed by litter picking. If it ain't kids then the person's involved should be made to clean it off then clean the sewage outlets.”

There are also suggestions made that anti-social behaviour in the Carmarthenshire coastal village had been reported to Dyfed-Powys Police around the same time, but seemingly no response was given, with one person commenting: “Well the police were phoned multiple times last weekend regarding groups of teens drinking and taking drugs down Llansteffan beach, and no officers were available to attend. So what do you expect to happen!”
