For the third successive year, the Cavalier Restaurant, Saundersfoot, were generous hosts for a Chicken 'n' Chips Supper to raise funds for the Chernobyl children's camp in Belarus.

Guest also enjoyed a selection of home-made desserts provided by the ladies of Hebron Baptist Church, whose pastor, Dr. David Pusey, was MC for the evening. David also made and served his own brand Ginger Cordial; sales of ginger, as well as a name-guessing game, added to the total amount raised during the evening.

For several years doctors have proclaimed the benefits of a few weeks holiday in clean air to aid the repair of children's immune systems. Staff at the camp have now added their own research findings: after three weeks, children from the worst affected areas had grown an average threequarters-of-an-inch, and gained about five pounds in weight. In 2003, 10 children will experience this life-giving break thanks to the £570 raised by people in and around Saundersfoot. Gifts from other parts of Wales, from UK and the rest of Europe mean that over £5,000 will again be sent to the camp organisers in time for this year's programme, which starts at the end of May, and runs throughout the summer.

Warm thanks are due to all who supported the evening, in particular to Simon and Vicky Goodwin, proprietors of the Cavalier Restaurant.
