A local police officer has undergone an extreme makeover - not to look better on the beat - but for a much more worthwhile cause.
PC Mike Smith, based at Saundersfoot Police Station, underwent the new look, which included having his body waxed, barnet dyed and 'tache shaved off, to raise funds to pay for a special wheelchair for former colleague, PC Huw Brynmor Edwards, who is suffering from MS.
Huw was previously stationed at Pembroke Dock and Tenby stations, where PC Smith was given the transformation under the watchful eye of many of his fellow officers, including PC Kelvin Lewis, who was one of the organisers of the fund-raiser.
"Fair play, he's been a good sport to do this and he'll probably be unrecognisable when he reappears on duty next! But it's all for such a good cause and we appreciate the support that people have given to our former colleague," said PC Lewis.
The fund-raiser has been run in conjunction with the 'Beacon of Hope' - a registered charity in Aberystwyth, where Huw is originally from and has now returned to.
Founded in 2000, the charity was formed to help and care for people with all kinds of illnesses.
