Further to their win over the Meads Stadium before Christmas, Heatherton Indoor Bowls Club came out fighting at home against Carmarthen in the New Year, although except for two rinks, none inexplicably were similar to the winning rinks of the previous match.
However, in the morning session (three rinks), the two 'Ronnies' - Ronnie 'Barker' Brabon and Ron 'left hook' Pointon, were in striking form, ably supported by Jack (singer) Turley and Steve (farmer) James, winning 15 out of 21 ends and scoring 30 shots to seven against T. Edwards.
On the adjacent rinks, John Roberts' rink with 'Dazzler' Dezille, Hugh Davies and 'Jock' Shields won by 13 shots against Josh Whiteford's rink.
The retired farming twins of John Baggot and John Smalley plus Ron Hurlow and George Bethwaite had a titanic struggle with Wyn Samuel's outfit, losing by just two shots, leaving Heatherton 34 shots up on the morning session.
The afternoon should have been easy, but turned out to be a very close run affair.
Steve Reese's rink found it difficult against Keith Evans, whose young son Aled was lead and went down by 17 shots.
Dave Burn's rink also suffered against an in-form Colin Davies, whose son Robert was playing lead, losing by 18 shots, but John Dugmore with Arthur White, Dave Bosier and Mike Gouldingay dug deep against Arnallt Owen to win by seven shots, thus giving Heatherton a five-shot overall win and a points tally of 16 to six.

Last Saturday, Heatherton came down to earth against Earlswood away. The team, conspicuous by the absence of many regular home players who do not seem to want to travel away, was comprehensively beaten on most rinks, with only Steve Reese and Terry Thomas's rinks getting close and losing by three and six shots, respectively.
Captain Ron Brabon wishes to thank all those players who were kind enough to fill in and travel away to play.
